How Is Semi Permanent Eyeliner Done?

For those unaware, semi permanent eyeliner is a type of semi permanent makeup that deposits a chosen colour of pigment into the epidermis of your eyelid, creating a perfect eyeliner make up effect on your lash line that lasts at least 2-3 years.

Semi permanent eyeliner makes the ideal beauty solution for those who struggle with daily makeup, or have a hard time achieving the perfect eyeliner. It is smudge free and waterproof, and can last a long time with the right aftercare. If you’re considering this treatment and want to know how its done, here is a brief guideline to fill you in.

The Duration

The whole procedure of a semi permanent eyeliner takes upto 2-3 hours. The numbing process takes 30 minutes. If you’re going for a traditional style it can take less time. However if you’re going for a more specific eyeliner style like wing or cat eye, it can take at least 3hrs. The duration will also vary according to your chosen eyebrow artist, their experience, skills, and specialization techniques.

Preparation Before Your Procedure (Preprocedure)

There are certain things that you need prepare before getting your semi permanent eyeliners done. They are advised to make sure your procedure is done safely aiming at giving out expected results.

Lash Extensions

One of the first things you need to do before getting the procedure done is remove you lash extensions at least 2 days or ideally a week before your procedure. This gives enough time for your lash extension glue to disappear at the time of the procedure. Remember that even small amounts of lash glue can interfere with the application of pigments into your eyelids. You can reapply your lash extensions once your tattoo has healed.

Natural Blood Thinners

You have to stop taking aspirin, fish oil, and other natural products that thin blood at least 3 days before the procedure. If you’re taking any prescription blood thinners, then consult your doctor for advise on whether or not the procedure is suitable for you.

Contact Lenses

Remove your contact lenses before the procedure and dont use them at least until any tenderness or redness has gone away.

Consult A Doctor

If you’re taking any other prescription medications or have severe skin issue including sensitive skin, you might have to consult a doctor prior to your procedure.

The Procedure

Before beginning the procedure you artist will confirm the design and style you previously agreed on. Then your eye will be cleaned with a cotton swab and makeup remover. Usually the procedure also involve the use of a numbing cream to ensure a comfortable and pain-free procedure.

With the use of gloves and magnifying eyeglasses for hygiene, your eyebrow artist will slowly deposit the chosen pigment colour into your skin with a tattooing tool. Depending on the advancement of the beauty or eyebrow clinic your getting your treatment at, they might also use certain digital tattoo machine and small gauge needles to keep the design as precise as possible. The procedure is done by depositing pigments back and forth over small sections of your lash line until the expected style is achieved.

The Healing Process (Postprocedure)

The best part about a semi-permanenent eyeliner is that there is no real downtime after an eyeline procedure. You just have to be mindful in avoiding a few things during the healing process which usually takes 7-10 days. Don’t use mascara until your healed to avoid infection. Avoid rubbing or touching the ye area to minimize the spread of germs and bacteria. Swimming, saunas, and heavy exercises should also be avoided to keep the healing process safe and sound.
