Make Your Brows Last with These Microblading After-Care Tips

thumbnail preview

Microblading has been one of the most popular and effective treatments to get semi-permanent brows for many years now. One of the common questions many have when getting this procedure is how to make the results last longer. Here are a few aftercare tips to help you with this.

After Care Tips While Healing

The healing period will take around 2-3 weeks on average. During this period, it’s important to follow the aftercare tips as instructed by your artist. These aftercare tips are given for two main reasons: make sure the brows heal properly and achieve effective results that will last longer. Here are some of the aftercare tips.

  • Make sure to avoid any sweat in the brow area at least for a week or so post-treatment. Whether it’s intense workouts, long hot showers, pools, hot tubs or saunas – everything should be avoided during the healing period.
  • Avoid as much sun exposure as you can post-treatment. Make sure to use a good SPF on the brows, cover the face, or wear a hat when you’re having a long day out. Minimizing sun exposure is crucial to get effective results during the healing process.
  • Avoid dying your eyebrows during the healing process. Any dye deposited in the brows can disturb the skin’s ability to seal the pigment from the eyebrow tattoo. This will not only give ineffective results post-healing but will also reduce the longevity of the tattoo in general.
  • If you smoke, then it’s best to stop it at least for a week after your microblading procedure. The chemicals in cigarettes can affect the skin’s ability to heal and deposit the tattoo pigments effectively.
  • Proper healing is a key element for effective and long-lasting results. So make sure your skin is hydrated to enhance its healing abilities. The more hydrated you are, the more effective it will heal and produce long-lasting results.

Aftercare Tips Post-Healing

Once you’re properly healed, there are some other aftercare tips you can practice to slow the fading of pigment from your eyebrows. Here are some of these tips.

  • Don’t apply eyebrow makeup too vigorously. Be gentle when you’re shaping your brows, and always practice gentle strokes that won’t disturb the skin on the eyebrows.
  • Retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, vitamin C serums, and other acids can be detrimental to the pigment’s integrity. Be careful about using skin care products like lotions, sunscreen, cleansers, and makeup that contain these chemicals. Also, remember that any product that is named “anti-ageing” may have acids and should not be applied over the tattooed eyebrows
  • Oily skin types are not good at retaining the tattooed pigment. The overproduction of sebum (skin oil) can disturb the ability of the pigment to stick to your skin. To tackle this and to make your brows last longer, use skin care products designed to reduce oil buildup. You can discuss your skin type with your artist and get product recommendations to manage this as well.
  • When you go out, make sure you use sunscreen to protect your brows. This will minimize sun exposure and related pigment fading.
